“This is the time!”

This is the Time!

By Pastor F. M. Riley

“But beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day,” 2 Peter 3:8.

Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else.  I am God, and there is none like Me,

Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure,” Isaiah 46:9-10.

Introduction

In these two inspired texts are set forth two great truths which have a direct bearing on the correct understanding of Bible prophecy.  In this study we will examine both of these truths.  Join us for an enlightening study, and one which should be a comfort and an encouragement to all true believers.  This study should also serve as a final warning to those who are still lost in sin…..

The Thousand Year Day Principle

Right in the midst of a context speaking of the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, the inspired Apostle explicitly warned God’s people that “one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day,” 2 Peter 3:8. But now some 2,000 years later many people still don’t get it!  This includes most “professing Christians” today, but also some of the so-called “great scholars” that wrote the commentaries, Bible Dictionaries, and various other books.  Most of them, when commenting on this verse in God’s inspired Word, tell us that this verse just means that “Time means nothing to God.” Sic!

Tell me…..is a thousand years a measurement of “time,” or is it not?  Well…??  What about a day?  Is a day a measurement of “time”?  Yes or no?  Who instituted the very first day in order for humanity to keep track of “time”?  Read Genesis 1:5. Is a year a measurement of “time,” or is it not?  Well…??  If it isn’t then why don’t we just throw all the calendars away and burn up all the history books, and tell ourselves there is no “time” except the present?  Well…??

Hey!  Don’t get disgusted with me.  I’m not the idiot who came up with the theory that “Time means nothing to God.” I will stand face to face with any of these so-called “scholars” and tell them point blank that Almighty God is the author of “time.”  He is also the ONE who appointed a “time” for everything in human history to take place.  Read Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 and Acts 17:26. Do you believe God’s Word, or don’t you?

When the Apostle Peter, right in the middle of a context speaking about the return of the Lord, warned God’s people that “one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day,” he said what he meant and he meant what he said.  Over and over again throughout the entire Word of God this principle of a “thousand year day” is set forth for the instruction of God’s people.  Pay attention!

Now I want to demonstrate this principle for our readers…..

The Principle Applied

When the Israelites crossed the Jordan river into the promised land some 3,500 years ago, they followed the Ark of the Covenant which was a type of Christ.  But they were explicitly instructed as to the order in which they were to march, and that when beginning their march there should be a space between them and the Ark of 2,000 cubits.  This correlates exactly with the 2,000 years of separation [two days in God’s great week] between Christ and unbelieving Israel.  Read the account yourself in Joshua 3.

David was also a type of Christ.  When King Saul attempted to kill David, David and his men departed from the land of Israel and went to Ziklag.  This was a Gentile city in a Gentile country.  The Scripture explicitly states that “David had abode two days in Ziklag,” 2 Samuel 1:1. The two days correlate with the 2,000 years the Lord has been gone from Israel ministering to the Gentiles.

In Hosea 6:1-2 that beloved old God fearing prophet cried out to his rebellious people, “Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for He hath torn, and He will heal us; He hath smitten, and He will bind us up.  After two days will He revive us: in the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight.” The “two days” spoken of by Hosea correlates exactly with the 2,000 years in this present dispensation, and “the third day” correlates with the 7th millennium in human history which humanity is entering right now.

Does this give our readers some insight into where we presently are in God’s Great Week?  Folks, all I am doing is literally applying the principle set forth in 2 Peter 3:8.   But I’m not through…..

Study the account of the Transfiguration in Matthew 16:27-28 and 17:1-9, and notice carefully when Christ was transfigured, “…..after six days.” This correlates prophetically with the six thousand years of human history.  It is at the end of this 6,000 years that the Lord will appear to mankind upon this earth in all His glory. Praise God!  Glory to God!

Study the Parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:30-35, noticing carefully how many “pence” the Samaritan gave to the inn keeper, “…two pence,” promising to “come again.” Folks, the Good Samaritan is a type of Christ, and the “two pence” were the equivalent of two days wages.  It is then obvious that in this parable the Lord was teaching that He would be gone from the Jews for 2,000 years and would return on “the third day.” Glory!  Glory to God!  Hallelujah!

Study the account of the raising of Lazarus in John 11. When news was brought to the Lord that Lazarus [a type of Israel] was sick, the Lord “abode two days still in the same place where He was,” 11:6. Where was the Lord?  According to John 10:40 He was in Bethabara beyond the Jordan.  This was a Gentile country at the time of the first coming of Christ.  The Lord spent “two days” with the Gentiles, correlating with the 2,000 years He has spent with us Gentile believers in this present dispensation, then He returned to Israel to raise Lazarus from the dead.  Glory!  Hallelujah!

Study the account of the Lord meeting the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well in John 4:1-45. He revealed Himself to that Gentile woman as the Messiah of Israel and then ministered the gospel to the Samaritans for “two days” before returning to the Jews.  Read the account for yourself.  Those “two days” correlate with the 2,000 years or two days in God’s Great Week that the Lord has been ministering the gospel to the Gentile nations of the earth.  The account explicitly states, “Now after two days He departed thence, and went into Galilee,” 4:43. After 2,000 years the Lord will come back to His own Jewish brethren.

Have I made my point?   Well…?? I could point out numerous other passages in God’s Word in which this same “thousand year day” principle can be clearly seen by those of God’s people who are seriously looking, but what I have presented should be sufficient to convince any true believer willing to deal honestly with God’s Word.

Now I want to demonstrate to our readers a truth that many have overlooked that correlates exactly with what I have just presented.  Read on…..

Another Biblical Principle

The Lord explicitly told His people in Isaiah 46:9-10 to “remember the former things of old.,” Why are God’s people explicitly told to “remember” those things which occurred in ancient times?  It is because these verses also explicitly state that “God” has declared “the end from the beginning.” I want to emphasize to our readers that these inspired verses mean what they say, and they say what they mean.  From the call of Abraham, which was the beginning of Jewish history, the Lord portrayed the end of the age over and over again in type and shadow. So another Biblical principle is set forth in these verses.  If you want to know how human history will end then go back and seriously study how the Lord dealt with Israel at their beginning, and in their subsequent history. Why Israel?   Because Israel was the one nation out of all nations which the Lord chose to reveal His glory through them to all the other nations of the world.  Read Exodus 19:3-6 and Psalm 135:4.

In 1 Corinthians 10:1-11, the inspired Apostle when writing to the New Testament church at Corinth, specifically wrote about Israel and said, “Now these things were our examples [typos…types], to the intent we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted,” 10:6, and in 10:11 he stated, “Now all these things happened unto them for examples [typos…types], and they are written for our admonition [instruction], upon whom the ends of the world are come.” Could it be stated any plainer?  Everything that happened to Old Testament Israel typified the very things that would occur in “the ends of the world” [aion…age].  Glory!  Only the majesty and power of Almighty God could overshadow and direct human history in such a way that “the end” was declared “from the beginning.” Read also Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 and 3:15 and give God glory.

These Principles Illustrated

After posting my study, Four Proofs and Nine Days, a brother sent me an email asking me how this year could possibly be the year of the Lord’s coming?  The brother was familiar with the principle of the “thousand year day” set forth in 2 Peter 3:8. He pointed out (correctly) that the Lord  is not supposed to return to Israel for 2,000 years.  According to the calendar it has not been 2,000 years since Christ was crucified, resurrected, and ascended back to the Father.  This was then a perplexing question to this dear brother.  Well let’s see if we can find the answer to this problem…..

I am one of those believers who still believes that the Lord was crucified and rose again in 30 A.D.  I do not believe it was 31 A.D., 32 A.D., 34 A.D., or even 38 A.D., as some are teaching today.  The only Jewish historian who was alive and an eye witness to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D., whose writings are still extant to us today is Flavius Josephus.  I have in my personal library his book, The Life and Works of Flavius Josephus.” In this book Josephus explicitly states that the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ occurred forty years prior to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.  This is documented history.  Since Josephus was the sole and only eye witness to that destruction, whose works the Lord chose to preserve across these many centuries, I have to believe that his statement is reliable.  His statement places the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ exactly in 30 A.D. I choose to believe it!   Now I am going to prove it to be correct from God’s Word!

Let’s now calculate the number of years from 30 A.D. to 2009.  2009 – 30 = 1,979 years.  So here is the amount of years we have between the two dates.  1,979 years!

Keep in mind that these are “solar” years based on a calendar system which assigns 365.2422 days to each year.  But the “solar” years are not the calendar year that the Lord uses in Bible prophecy, especially when dealing with Israel.  Rather, the Lord uses a “prophetic year” of 360 days to each year.  This can be demonstrated over and over again in the Scriptures, so I am not going to labor the point.

Therefore let’s now calculate how many days there are in 1,979 “solar” years, the number of years between 30 A.D. and 2009.  To do this we multiply 1,979 years by 365.2422, the number of days in a “solar” year.  1979 X 365.2422 = 722,814.3138, or rounded off 722,814 days.

Now let’s change these 722,814 days in 1,979 “solar years” into “prophetic years.”  We do this by dividing the number of days by 360, the number of days in a “prophetic year.”  722,814 divided by 360 = 2007.81666666, or rounded off 2,007 prophetic years.

Folks, it has been 2,007 prophetic years since the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified, raised from the dead, and ascended back to the Father in 30 A.D. Use any other year than 30 A.D. for the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ and this calculation will not work out to 2,007 years.  Thus the many Scriptures which teach that Christ would be gone from Israel for 2,000 years [2 days in God’s Great Week] have literally come to pass and have even been exceeded by seven years.  Oh!  But since the Lord is so precise in His Word, why then an extra seven years?  I’m so glad you asked…..

I would remind our readers that in the Parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:30-35, the Good Samaritan gave the innkeeper “two pence” and then explicitly stated, “Take care of him, and whatsover thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee,” 10:35. As previously pointed out, the Good Samaritan is a type of the Lord Jesus Christ.  The statement made then clearly implies the “possibility” of the Lord being gone from Israel in excess of 2,000 years.  Well sure enough, the 2,000 years have been exceeded by seven years. But why…??  Because the Lord still declares “the end from the beginning.” I will now demonstrate this truth for our readers…..

Pharaoh’s Dream

I never have understood why so many “prophecy teachers” have almost totally ignored one of the greatest “prophetic dreams” in all of God’s Word.  Our readers will find this “prophetic dream” recorded in Genesis 41. Read the whole chapter for yourself.  I am not going to take the time, nor the space to go over it all in this study.

Joseph [a type of Christ], in interpreting this dream of Pharaoh, pointed out that there would be “seven good years” followed immediately by “seven evil years.” If one seriously studies the context, the words “good” and “evil” are applied to the 14 year period on the basis of the availability of FOOD to feed the people.  During the “good years” food was available for everyone.  But during the “evil years” food was scarce and rationed because of a world wide drouth and famine.  Folks, we are talking here about the very basic necessity of life.  Mankind can do without many other things and survive, but mankind upon this earth simply cannot do without FOOD.  Read Ecclesiastes 6:7 and Matthew 4:4. Hey!  Is this ringing any bells yet for you folks who seriously study God’s Word?

Folks, some 3,500 years ago our wonderful, gracious Lord gave humanity advance warning of what would occur at the end of this very age in which we are living today.  He truly declared “the end from the beginning.” I now want to demonstrate this truth for our readers.

The End Time Application

As far as FOOD is concerned, the last seven years have been “good years” for humanity.  Even the poor people who live in third world countries in abject poverty have still had FOOD to eat because numerous relief agencies from the United States and various other prosperous nations of the world have imported food into those countries to feed the masses.  But now “change” has arrived.

In 2007 I wrote a Bible study pointing out that “7” is the Bible number denoting “completeness,” and I stated in that study that 2008 would be a year of “change.” Well guess what?  In this country the housing market began to collapse almost at the end of 2007, and collapsed big time in 2008.  The collapse of the housing market caused bank failures all over the nation, which in turn dragged down the whole American economy.  In 2008 banks began failing, businesses began to close, factories began laying off thousands of workers, people began loosing their homes, and the whole American economy is now in “free fall.”  As if all this wasn’t bad enough, in 2008 thousands of gullible Americans elected a “foreign usurper” as President of this country because he campaigned on a platform of bringing “change” to the country.  And he has!  So how do you like the “change” thus far?  Well…?? This is just the beginning of the “change”!

Now we are in the year 2009 and the next “change” on the agenda, not only for the United States, but for the whole world is world wide famine.  Such is staring humanity in the face right now as I write.  But I am not setting forth “breaking news.”  Not hardly!  The Lord declared this truth in His Word some 3,500 years ago in Genesis 41. All these past “seven good years” have done is demonstrate the truth the Lord declared at the beginning of Israel’s history.  Folks, these past seven years have been “seven good years” in relation to the availability of FOOD to feed mankind upon the earth.  But as I write humanity is only a few more days from the end of the “seven good years.”

The Transition

There is not the slightest doubt in my mind that these present “seven good years” will come to an abrupt end on Elul 29 on the Jewish calendar.  That date is September 18, 2009 on our calendar.  I would point out that in simple numbers this date can be written as 9-9-9-9; the 9th month, the 18th day [2 nines], the 9th year of the present century.  Four “9”s equal 36.  Add up all the numbers from 1 through 36 and the sum is 666”. Do I need to say more?

Then on Rosh HaShanah, Tishri 1, September 19, 2009, the “seven evil years” will begin. Before the end of this present year all food supplies in America and most other countries in the whole world will be depleted.  People will be starving to death in the streets of America [and most other countries] before the end of this present year.

I  remind our readers that shortly after the terrible Tribulation begins, Revelation 6:5-6 records that a rider on a black horse will be weighing out food to humanity [world wide food rationing] left on this earth.  Read the account for yourself.  It is more than significant that the inspired Word explicitly states that “a measure of wheat” will be selling for “a penny.” A “measure of wheat” was approximately a quart of wheat; just enough to bake a loaf of bread.  The Greek word translated as “penny” in this verse is the word, “denarius.” The “denarius” in Bible times was the equivalent of one days wages.

In other words, immediately after the beginning of the Tribulation there will be world food rationing and it will require a day’s wages just to buy one loaf of bread.

Conclusion

Folks, in a recent Bible study I sent out, Four Proofs and Nine Days, I pointed out that

this present Jewish year of 5769 will end, and the next Jewish year of 5770 will begin as Elul 29 ends and Rosh HaShanah begins.  “69” is the Bible number which means “to cut off or bring to an end,” while “70” is the Bible number associated with “the restoration of Israel.” This means that a transition is going to occur on or near Rosh HaShanah,   September 18th-19th on our calendar. The Lord’s New Testament church and people will be bodily removed from the face of this earth by the resurrection and rapture, and Israel will be restored to their position of representing the Lord on this earth.

In that recent study I also pointed out that this truth is verified by the Jewish calendar, the Jewish Sabbath Years, the Psalms, the 42 year “generation” since Jerusalem was restored to Israel, and even the nine days preceding Rosh HaShanah which correlate perfectly with the warning the Lord gave to Noah before the flood in Genesis 7:1-10.

In this present study I have now set forth a final warning.  If any reader has not given their heart and life to the Lord in true repentance and faith, then they are not ready for what is coming in another 28 days [or less].  If I am describing YOU in making this statement, I beg you to seek the Lord now while there is still time for you to be saved.  Cast aside all dependence upon your religious “profession,” your church, your baptism, your works, your “good moral life,” your pride, your position in life, your wealth, and anything or anyone else that might stand between you and the Lord, and call upon and trust the Lord Jesus Christ  and Him alone for the salvation of your eternal soul.  Do it now!  Tomorrow may truly be too late!  Read 2 Corinthians 6:2, John 3:16, 14:6, Acts 16:31, and Romans 10:8-13.

I would like to meet every reader of this study in glory in another 28 days (or less).  Please don’t disappoint me.  I care for your soul! I am weeping and praying for the lost even as I write.   If you need spiritual help, please contact me at once.  I’ll study with you, pray with you, and do whatever I can to help you to “make your calling and election sure,” 2 Corinthians 13:5; 2 Peter 1:10. I have now poured out my soul to you and for you in giving you this final warning.  What you do with is now between you and the Lord.

Folks, “This is the time! God’s people are going “home” to glory.  May God have mercy on the poor people left behind on earth to face the “seven evil years.”

  1. Jesus said to His apostles:

“… IT IS NOT FOR YOU TO KNOW THE TIMES OR THE SEASONS, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:7-8)

“Watch therefore, for YE KNOW NEITHER THE DAY NOR THE HOUR wherein the Son of man cometh.” (Matt 25:13)

“But of THE TIMES AND THE SEASONS, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.” (1 Thess 5:1-2)

“But OF THAT DAY AND HOUR KNOWETH NO MAN, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” (Matt 24:36-42)

Suffice it to say that there are many sign pointing to the very soon return of Jesus Christ!!!

  2. We are anxiously awaiting Rosh Hashana too, after viewing Dewey Bruton’s Daniel’s Timeline (can see it on You-Tube). He does not teach a rapture, but we believe in it, and he has a wonderful argument on when Jesus will return, and when the “abomination” and fleeing of the Hebrews will happen, with layer upon layer of evidence. Counting backward from his date, it will start October 9, and because of the ties to the rapture of Rosh Hashana, we fully expect it then. Thank you for your teaching, and alerting the world.

  3. Considering that Sept 2009 did not bring the rapture obviously something in your studies was off.

Would you consider that Rosh Hashanah 2009 was indeed the beginning of the seven year tribulation but that the rapture will come at some point during the tribulation? Don’t forget that the multitude that was seen at the breaking of the 6th seal were those “who had come out of the great tribulation”.

Or do you still hold that we will be raptured before the tribulation and that your calculations were off or otherwise misinterpreted?
