The Rapture on Oct 30, 2012? A possibility yes! a reader leaves a comment!
Thanks to Janet Herscu for the posts she send today in comments.
The possibilities that are being presented in these last days about the timing of the events for the Rapture and the start of the Tribulations are very exciting to say the least.
The concepts involved are so complex that they lend themselves to a wide range of possibilities that are both based in science and the scriptures.
When you are hypothesizing about the causes of a shift in the earth axis, the resulting stresses on the earth mantle, the variations of the rotation of the earth and the changing of the times and seasons we are dealing with imponderables that are the sole purveyance of God.
If we are correct at seeing His divine hand at work it is because diligent human minds have labor hard and long in both the science and the scriptures that describe these events and have reached an educated conclusion.
The comment by JH:
We might as well get excited about the earth’s straightening. After all, it’s the Church’s future! So here is another article (not mine) on the same subject (straightening of the earth by 22-23 degrees with a resultant ‘loss’ of 22-23 days since the same rays shining on a certain spot on a tilted earth will be the SAME rays shining on a spot 22-23 degrees previous to that spot once the earth is straight…..thus a 22-23-day SEASONAL/CALENDAR change. This is why the 22 days between the 8th day SUCCOTH 2012 to Tues, Oct 30 deserve attention; because they are virtually ‘one and the same day when one subtracts the 22 days now and earth’s straightening will ‘eat’ those days up. Thus, the RAPTURE may be on the 8th day SUCCOTH (Shemini Atzeret) after all in this respect. It’s speculation, of course; but after Oct 30, I don’t see material worthy of further study.
A Bible Study by Jack Kelley
Jesus said to them (the Disciples), “I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (Matt. 19:28)
He (Jesus) must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets. (Acts 3:21)
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new.” Then He said, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.” (Rev. 21:5-6)
The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God. (Isaiah 35:1-2)
The End times judgments will be devastating in the extreme, and the Lord warned that if He didn’t bring them to a close at the appointed time, not a single soul would survive (Matt. 24:22). But for the sake of the elect, He will bring them to a close and when He does the restoration will begin.
I believe one of the ancillary functions of the end times judgments will be to begin the process of returning Earth to the condition it was in just after the creation, as if the Great Tribulation is the demolition phase of the restoration. This is hinted at by phrases like “every island fled away and the mountains could not be found” (Rev. 16:20) and “there was no longer any sea” (Rev. 21:1).
Comparing verses like these with the return of long life spans indicated in Isaiah 65:20, I have concluded that Earth will once again become a single land mass surrounded by water, the way Gen. 1:9 described it. Scientists call this original land mass Pangea, and Genesis 10:25 makes mention of its division into today’s continents. We can see other evidence of how radically the Earth’s topography was changed during and after the Great Flood, and now it will be time to put things back the way they were. I think most of the present seas will either return to their underground origins or rise into the upper atmosphere to re-establish the water vapor canopy that once surrounded Earth (Gen. 1:6-7) and enabled the long pre-flood lifespans.
The mountains will be lowered, the sea floor elevated, and the continents rejoined at their seams. Streams and rivers will flow through lands that have been parched for thousands of years. The great desserts will become verdant plains again.
I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs. I will put in the desert the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive. I will set pines in the wasteland, the fir and the cypress together, so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the LORD has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it.(Isaiah 41:18-20)
The current tilt of the Earth’s axis causes extreme differences in the world’s weather and makes large areas uninhabitable. I believe this will be corrected at the time of the 2nd Coming. The axis will become upright again and the year shortened to its original 360 days. Earth will once again enjoy a world wide sub-tropical climate like it did before Adam lost it and the terrible effects of sin were loosed upon it. This is something the creation has been waiting for ever since.
The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. (Romans 8:19-21)
When the Lord Returns in glory the wait will be over, and soon afterward the creation will once again resemble a lush garden. He will make her deserts like Eden, her waste lands like the garden of the Lord (Isaiah 51:3)
Some people are troubled by all this because they’re so in love with the creation as it currently appears. I even read a book review recently whose author is asking God to be left behind at the rapture because she can’t imagine anything being more beautiful than this present Earth, not even Heaven. People like this are limited in their thinking. In the first place, they don’t stop to think that if the Earth is this beautiful while under a curse how much more so will it be when the curse is lifted and it’s restored to its original condition?
And second, they don’t realize that the Lord has spent the last 2,000 years “preparing a place for us” in His Father’s house (John 14:2-3). The Church will no longer call Earth home but will dwell with Him there. Do these folks really think that after the rapture, when we see all eternity spread out before us, we’ll be disappointed with our future and long to go back into this fallen creation? Is that what they think the Lord has in store for us?
But our focus here is the restoration of Planet Earth, where Israel will once again be the pre-eminent nation. One of the clues we get that the Kingdom Age on Earth features Israel and not the Gentile Nations, or even the Church, is that almost all the descriptive passages are in the Old Testament, and for the most part center around Israel.
From them we learn of the desert bursting into bloom (Isaiah 35:1-2), of the land being so fertile that before they can complete the harvest it will be time to begin planting again (Amos 9:13). Peace will flow like a river and the wealth of the nations like a flooding stream (Isaiah 66:12) In Jerusalem men and women of ripe old age will sit in streets filled with playing children (Zechariah 8:4-5). And in the country side, “Every man will sit under his own vine and under his own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the LORD Almighty has spoken.” (Micah 4:4)
Peace will prevail in the animal kingdom as well. Predators and prey will live side by side, and their young will lie down together, all of them existing in perfect harmony with each other and with mankind again (Isaiah 11:6-8). This will be another reversal of a post-flood condition, when fear and dread of man fell upon all the beasts of the earth and the birds of the air (Gen. 9:2-3).
And so the time of restoration will have come, and in every way Earth will be like it was in the beginning. Where ever one goes there will be peace on Earth and good will toward men, like the angel Gabriel promised to the shepherds so long ago. The Lord Himself will rule, assisted by the Church.
The mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law (Torah) will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. (Isaiah 2:2-4)
But like it was at the beginning, the seed of rebellion will still exist in the heart of natural man. Even though he’s been given every conceivable advantage in this, his last best chance to live in peace with God, within a generation or two that seed will begin to germinate as the children of Tribulation survivors come of age. Some will choose to follow their parents to the foot of the cross and receive their personal redemption. But with each generation an increasing number won’t. This will happen even though Satan will be bound, the Lord Himself will be their King, and God’s Law will be their law.
You see, there is no condition or circumstance that will allow natural man with his sin nature to live in peace with God. As the end of the Thousand Year Kingdom approaches, unbelievers will vastly out number believers again, especially among the nations. When Satan is released they will mount up as one and march across the breadth of the Earth to surround the camp of God’s people and the city He loves in a final attempt to kick the Lord off the planet. But fire from Heaven will devour them, and Satan will be captured again, this time to be thrown into the lake of fire forever. (Rev. 20:9-10)
And so for the seventh time since the creation, God will have entered into covenant with man in an attempt at coexistence. And for the seventh time all but a remnant will refuse, and the covenant will be broken and end in judgment. These seven attempts by God to live among His creation are called dispensations, or ages, and if this is a new idea for you here’s a brief description of each.
The Seven Dispensations
The first attempt has been called the Age of Innocence. Between the Creation and the Fall of Man God interacted freely and personally with man. Man was created immortal and while he had agency (the power of choice) he didn’t have a sin nature. God placed Adam and Eve in His garden and gave them only one restriction. But they violated this restriction and were expelled from the Garden. Adam, Eve, and the Serpent who beguiled them were all judged, the Creation was cursed, and sin entered the world.
Then came the Age of Conscience. From the Fall of Man to the Great Flood, God allowed man’s conscience to rule without Divine interference. Because of man’s newly acquired sin nature, the result of this was “the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (Genesis 6:5) After repeated warnings, God destroyed all but 8 members of the Human race in the Great Flood.
Next there was the Age of Human Government which lasted from Noah’s Flood to the Tower of Babel. After the Flood, God allowed man to establish his first system of government. But the people disobeyed God’s commandment to go forth and replenish the Earth, setting about instead to build a great city and a tower to protect themselves from another flood. They also used the tower to study astrology, a corruption of the Gospel that God had written in the stars using the names of 12 constellations. So God gave each of the 70 families of man a unique language that other families weren’t able to understand. This caused confusion and distrust among the people and they drifted apart to be scattered through out the world, and God destroyed the tower.
The fourth attempt was called the Age of Promise. God set Abraham’s descendants apart as His Chosen People and promised Abraham and Sarah a son through whom He said He would bless the world. But they grew tired of waiting for Him, and they produced a son on their own, calling him Ishmael. Later, when God gave them Isaac, the son He had promised, Ishmael was sent away causing bad blood between Ishmael (Arabs) and Isaac (Jews) that continues to this day.
Number five was the Age of Law which lasted from Mt. Sinai to Pentecost. After God brought the Israelites out of Egypt, He gave Moses the 10 Commandments and offered the Jews the land He had promised to Abraham along with a life of peace and plenty if they obeyed His Law. After 2000 years of vacillating between obedience and rebellion that resulted in them rejecting the Messiah, God finally had enough, expelled them from their land, and dispersed them throughout the world. (But not forever. The Age of Law was interrupted seven years short of its allotted time while God created the Church. After the Rapture, the final 7 years, also known as Daniel’s 70th Week Israel will have one final chance to live in obedience to God and accept their Messiah.)
The Age of Grace, also known as The Church Age, was God’s sixth try. No longer requiring that righteousness be earned through obedience to the Law, God imputed His own righteousness to man by grace through faith in the completed work of the Lord Jesus, promising eternal blessing and a place in His own house to all who accept. It was the most outrageously lavish gift ever bestowed, free for the asking. But by the end of the Age of Grace most of humanity will have rejected His gift, choosing instead to live on their own terms, betting that either God doesn’t exist, or if He does He’ll allow them into His kingdom anyway. After removing the relative few who have accepted His gift so they’ll be safe with Him, He’ll punish the rest through the most severe time of judgment ever visited on Earth.
And finally there’s the Kingdom Age, number seven. This is the 1000 Year Reign of the Lord, also known as the Millennium, that we’ve been discussing. And like the previous six, it will end in failure and judgment. Seven attempts, seven failures, seven judgments. Enough is enough.
After the Millennium, God and man will enjoy a new beginning, called Eternity. We’re not given any information about this because the Bible effectively ends at the end of the Millennium. A careful reading shows that in Rev. 20, John skipped ahead after verse six to describe the final destinies of Satan and all unbelievers while he was on the subject. (Rev. 20:7-15) Then in Rev. 21:1-27 he went back to the beginning of the Millennium to show us the New Jerusalem, and in Rev. 22:1-6 gave us a glimpse of Millennial life on Earth. We know this because Rev. 21:1 is a direct quote from Isaiah 65:17 where the context is the Kingdom age in Israel and Rev. 22:1-6 is a summary of Ezekiel 47, also a millennial passage.
As part of the Church we’ll effectively have a head start on Eternity, as will resurrected believers from both Old Testament times and Daniel’s 70th Week. But we’ll have to wait at least until the rapture to see what it’s going to be like. All we know for now is that it’ll be the greatest adventure ever designed for mankind, and we’re at the head of the line.

Here’s an interesting article concerning the ‘straightening of the earth’ at the Lord’s Return:
The Pre-Flood 360-Day Calendar & the Second Coming
Copyright © Tim Warner, AnswersinRevelation.org
One of the most perplexing problems for Biblical chronologists is explaining the
calendar data given in Genesis 7-8. The flood began on the 17
th day of the 2nd month.
The ark rested on the 17
th day of the 7th month, five months to the day. Genesis describes
this period as 150 days, (Gen. 7:11,24, 8:3-4). Therefore, these five months on Noah’s
calendar consisted of exactly 30 days each, (30×5=150). Noah’s lunar months (30 days)
were about a half day longer than the present lunar months (29.53 days). If you
extrapolate Noah’s lunar calendar for the full 12 months of the year, it is apparent he
knew a 360 day lunar year, (30×12=360).
Noah’s calendar was different from both the present lunar calendar (354.53 days), and
present solar calendar (365.24 days). Something occurred about the time of the flood
that altered the calendar, making it necessary to add an intercalary month every 2 or 3
years to keep the lunar calendar in sync with the seasons. I have not previously heard
an adequate explanation that could account for the apparent separation of the lunar –
solar year from the pre-flood calendar. In this paper I will present a hypothesis which
may answer this question. Please keep in mind that this is only a hypothesis, and is
subject to correction if the mathematical data proves it false.
No Solar Year Before the Flood
The earth’s tilt on its axis is what gives us the seasons. If the earth’s axis was
perpendicular to the ecliptic, (0 degree tilt), there would be no seasons at all, and no
such thing as a “solar year.” The earth’s temperature at each latitude would be constant
year round. The weather would be extremely mild and non-violent. With no seasons
and a very mild, stable climate, crops could be planted and harvested year round. Food
storage would be completely unnecessary. Remember, people prior to the flood were
vegetarians, (cf. Gen. 1:29-30 & 9:1-4). Around the 30 – 40 degree latitudes, every day
would be comfortable, perhaps in the mid 60s to mid 70s year round. Remember, Adam
and Eve were naked prior to the fall, with absolutely no provision for warm clothing in
With no inclination of the earth’s axis, there would be no such thing as a “solar year”
because no seasonal changes would occur to measure it by. The days would not get
longer and shorter throughout the year. The sun would not appear to drift in its ark
across the sky, but would follow precisely the same path year round.
That the four seasons, with their yearly oscillations of cold and heat, did not exist before
the flood is supported by the Genesis data.
1 There is no mention of any of the four
seasons, weather, changing climate, or changing temperature until the flood.
Immediately after the flood, God introduced the four seasons to Noah, characterizing
them by the terms, “cold” and “heat.”
Gen 8:20-22 LXX
20 And Noe built an altar to the Lord, and took of all clean beasts, and of all clean birds,
and offered a whole burnt–offering upon the altar.
21 And the Lord God smelled a smell of sweetness, and the Lord God having considered,
said, I will not any more curse the earth, because of the works of men, because the
imagination of man is intently bent upon evil things from his youth, I will not therefore
any more smite all living flesh as I have done.
22 All the days of the earth,
seed and harvest, cold and heat, summer and spring,
shall not cease by day or night
The “curse” on the ground in verse 21, and “smiting” the earth, both refer to what God
did to the earth on account of the sin of mankind in Noah’s day. Verse 22 makes no
sense in this context unless the four seasons described were just being introduced for
the first time. Had they been occurring all along, what would be the point of telling
Noah that the four seasons would continue perpetually? The only logical reason for
making such a statement was to let Noah know that a new situation had arisen, the
earth having four seasons varying from cold to hot. Noah should expect this to be
permanent, not just a temporary aberration from the flood. Therefore, the only
reasonable explanation of this passage from a scientific point of view is that the earth
tilted on its axis, from 0 degrees prior to the flood, to its present 23.5 degrees.
Answers in Genesis claims that Christians should not use the argument that the earth’s axis was not tilted before the flood,
. Their stated reason is not scientific, but textual.
“Genesis 1:14 reveals seasons did exist prior to the Flood.”
While AiG’s work in science is first rate, and we highly recommend it, their
interpretation of this passage is wrong. The word “seasons” in Genesis 1:14 is “moedh.” It has nothing to do with the four seasons
(winter, spring, fall, and summer). It means “appointed time,” (Gen. 17:21; 18:14; 21:2; Ex. 9:5). In the Torah, it almost always refers
to the Jewish feast days that were calculated by the new moon (Ex. 13:10; 23:15; Lev. 23:2,4; 23:37,44; Num. 9:2-3,7,13; 10:10; 15:3; 28:2;
29:39; Deut. 16:6; 31:10). In fact, Psalm 104:19 states plainly that God
“appointed the moon for seasons” (moedh). The moon has nothing
to do with spring, summer, fall, and winter. It has everything to do with the lunar calendar, by which all the feasts were calculated.
This Hebrew word is never used in the Torah to refer to any of the four seasons. The point of Genesis 1:14 was that the heavenly
bodies were given partly for calculating the feasts of the Lord (seasons), by keeping a lunar calendar. The International Standard
Bible Encyclopedia states:
“The sun and moon were appointed “to give light upon the earth” and “for signs,” and “for days and years.” They
were also appointed “for seasons” (mo’ adhim), i.e. “appointed assemblies.” These seasons were not primarily such seasons as the progress of the
year brings forth in the form of changes of weather or of the condition of vegetation; they were seasons for worship. The word mo’edh occurs some
219 times; in 149 it is translated “congregation,” and in about 50 other instances by “solemn assembly” or some equivalent expression. Thus
before ever man was created, God had provided for him times to worship and had appointed two great lights of heaven to serve as signals to call to
The objection of Answers in Genesis to this theory based on the Genesis passage is unfounded.
The flood and the confounding of the languages are found in ancient pagan
mythologies. That many cultures have such legends is powerful evidence that the
events in the Bible really took place, even though pagans greatly embellished them.
Ancient civilizations invented absurd legends of gods interacting with the creation in
order to explain nature as they observed it. The ancient Greeks had a legend of a
previous golden age with no change of seasons, where crops grew in abundance year
round. In this previous age, men did not grow old. This sounds remarkably similar to
the biblical account of the great ages reached by men before the flood.
“Virgo is the second-largest constellation in the sky, exceeded only by the much fainter
Hydra. The Greeks called the constellation Parthenos. She is usually identified as Dike,
goddess of justice, who was daughter of Zeus and Themis; … Dike was supposed to have
lived on Earth in the Golden Age of mankind, when Cronus ruled Olympus. It was a
time of peace and happiness,
a season of perennial spring when food grew without
and humans never grew old. Men lived like the gods, not knowing work,
sorrow, crime or war. Dike moved among them, dispensing wisdom and justice.
“Then, when Zeus overthrew his father Cronus on Olympus, the Silver Age began,
inferior to the age that had just passed. In the Silver Age,
Zeus shortened springtime
and introduced the yearly cycle of seasons
. Humans in this age became quarrelsome
and ceased to honour the gods. Dike longed for the idyllic days gone by. She assembled
the human race and spoke sternly to them for forsaking the ideals of their ancestors.
‘Worse is to come’, she warned them. Then she spread her wings and took refuge in the
mountains, turning her back on mankind.”
That the seasons began at the time of the flood is further supported by an ancient Jewish
tradition contained in the Book of Jubilees, a Jewish apocryphal work written about
200BC. According to this tradition, Noah was the first to inaugurate four festivals to
mark the four seasons.
“And on the new moon of the first month, and on the new moon of the fourth month, and
on the new moon of the seventh month, and on the new moon of the tenth month are the
days of remembrance, and the days of the seasons in the four divisions of the year. These
are written and ordained as a testimony for ever. And Noah ordained them for himself as
feasts for the generations for ever, so that they have become thereby a memorial unto
Ridpath, Ian, Star Tales; chapter 3; Virgo. http://www.ianridpath.com/startales/virgo.htm. Notice also the similarity to Revelation
12, the woman clothed with the sun, and moon under her feet, who is given two great wings and flies into the wilderness.
Book of Jubilees, VI, 23-24
The Sumerians (the civilization that built the tower of Babel) used a 360 day calendar
with 12 months of 30 days.
4 However, the calendar was corrected to the solar year by
adding 5 extra days at the end of each year. The actual use of a 360 day calendar after
the flood can easily be explained if Noah and his sons only knew of a 360 day year prior
to the flood. There is no apparent reason for anyone to use a 360 day calendar because it
does not agree with either the solar year (365 days) or lunar year (354 days).
The Shortened Lunar Year
As was pointed out previously, the pre-flood lunar month was 30 days, and the lunar
year was 360 days. This is established by the text. The tilting of the earth on its axis
explains how the seasons began, and consequently made it necessary to keep a 365.24
day solar calendar for the agricultural cycle.
If this theory is correct, we would expect the tilting of the earth on its axis to also
explain the shortening of the lunar month from 30 days to 29.5 days, (making the lunar
year 354.37 days instead of 360 days). If the same physical change (tilting the earth’s
axis) also shortens the lunar year, this explanation becomes highly probable.
What would it take to shorten the number of days in a lunar month that involves a
physical change to the earth only? The only possibility is to slow the earth’s rotation.
Since the moon’s revolutions do not change, a slowing of the earth’s rotation would
make the days slightly longer, and there would be slightly fewer days in a single lunar
cycle. Therefore, for this theory to work, the effect of tilting the earth’s axis must also
slow its rotation.
If God disrupted the earth’s tilt by applying an outside force, two important
phenomena would occur. First, the shift of the earth’s axis would generate tremendous
turbulence and internal friction within the earth’s molten core as it struggled to reorient
to a different angle of rotation. The net effect of this internal friction would be a
significant braking of the earth’s speed of rotation until the molten core realigned itself
to the new axis. The energy of the core’s momentum would be converted to heat.
The second effect from tilting the earth’s axis concerns the earth’s crust. We know from
Genesis that the earth originally had only one super continent, and one super ocean.
Then God said, ‘Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry
land appear’; and it was so.”
5 Tilting the spinning earth would create an enormous
gyroscopic torque effect on the earth’s crust, tearing this super continent apart.
Calendars through the Ages, http://www.webexhibits.org/calendars/calendar-ancient.html
Gen 1:9 NASB
John Baumgardner, PhD., of Los Alamos National Laboratory, has done pioneering
work with computer models demonstrating how catastrophic plate tectonics accounts
for the present state of the earth, and Noah’s flood.
6 Yet, his theory lacks a specific
trigger for the thermal runaway necessary to begin the subduction process.
gyroscopic torque effect on the earth’s crust, and enormous heat generated by the
shifting core, could easily provide such a trigger. A chain reaction of rapid continental
shifting would result. The law of conservation of energy, (first law of thermodynamics),
requires that the enormous heat energy in Baumgardner’s model must have been
converted from kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of the earth’s rotation being
converted to heat therefore provides a significant braking effect on the earth’s rotation.
The slower rotation would make for slightly longer days and nights. The moon’s cycles
and phases would not change. But longer days mean slightly fewer days would elapse
during a single lunar cycle. Consequently, the lunar month went from 30 days to 29.5
days. The lunar year went from 360 days (12 lunar months) to 354.37 days per lunar
year. This is the direct result of a decreased rotation speed of the earth.
Once the seasons began after the flood, it quickly became necessary to correct the lunar
calendar every 2 or 3 years by adding an intercalary month to synchronize it with the
new seasons for agricultural purposes.
The Future Result of the Shift in the Earth’s Axis
Isaiah indicates that the earth’s axis will once again be greatly disturbed just prior to
Jesus’ return. There is currently a slight wobble in the earth’s rotation. However, this
wobble will apparently become much faster and much greater in magnitude. Below is
the LXX rendering of Isaiah 24:18-20, with my literal translation following.
Isaiah 24:18b-20 LXX
Baumgardner, John, PhD, CATASTROPHIC PLATE TECTONICS: THE PHYSICS BEHIND THE GENESIS FLOOD;
In the same article, Baumgardner explains the lack of a specific trigger as follows: “What about the triggering mechanism for the
runaway of the mantle’s boundary layers? In my opinion the simplest possibility is that the initial state from which the runaway
emerged was built into the Earth as God originally formed it. In fact, I believe this almost certainly had to have been the case. It is
also plausible that the Earth’s mantle had been grinding inexorably toward catastrophe during all the 1650 or so years from when
Adam disobeyed until “all the fountains of the great deep were broken up,” such that no separate trigger immediately prior to the
Flood event itself was even necessary. For lack of any more specific information about how the cataclysm was triggered, I
personally prefer this simple hypothesis.”
Isaiah 24:18b-20 Literal Translation
windows from heaven were opened, and the foundations of the earth
shall be shaken
19 By disturbance the earth
shall be disturbed, and by perplexity the earth shall be
has tilted, and the earth shall wobble like a storehouse, like one intoxicated and
dizzy, and it
shall fall and not be able to rise up. For lawlessness shall grow strong
Note the changes in verb tense. The clause,
“windows from heaven were opened” in verse
18 clearly refers to the Genesis account of Noah’s flood.
8 The ultimate consequence will
be the future shaking of the foundations of the earth.
There is a parallel structure to these verses. Verses 18-19 are parallel to verse 20. In both,
the past event of the flood is mentioned first:
“windows of heaven were opened” and “[the
earth] has tilted.”
The future result follows in both: “the foundations of the earth shall be
and “the earth shall wobble …like one intoxicated and dizzy.”
Now, let’s consider another critical prophecy, this time from Psalm 102:25-26. This
passage was quoted in Hebrews 1:10-12 verbatim from the LXX. Below is the LXX
rendering followed by my literal translation.
Psalm 102:25-26 (Hebrews 1:10-12) Literal Translation
25 At the beginning, You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the
works of Your hands.
26 They shall self-destruct, yet You remain. And all, like a garment, shall become aged.
And as a thrown around garment You shall whirl them, and they shall be altered.
The verb rendered “self-destruct” is in the middle voice, meaning the destruction is
performed by the created bodies upon themselves. However, the verb rendered,
“become aged” is in the passive voice. This indicates that the created bodies are passive
in their aging and obvious decay. Finally, note the curious language of verse 26. Two
different words for “garment” are used. When speaking of growing old, the normal
word for garment is used. However, when God gets involved, the word for “garment”
refers to a cloak that is thrown around the body. The word literally means,
That is, a cape or cloak that one spins to one side while its momentum
brings it around the back to the other side. This strongly implies an accelerated
spinning of the heavenly bodies. Additionally, the clause,
“You shall whirl them,” clearly
has this idea in view.
From this passage we see that the bodies of our solar system will deteriorate and wind
down. At some point things will become unstable and the system will begin to selfdestruct.
The stable motions will become chaotic. This is a perfect description of the
violent “wobble” of the earth on its axis found in Isaiah 24. Finally, when God steps in
at the second coming of Jesus, He will correct the chaos, and spin the created bodies,
altering (and correcting) their motion. This is, of course, what is meant by
heavens and new earth”
mentioned by Isaiah (65-66) and Peter (2 Peter 3), which will
occur at the second coming of Jesus.
This predicted violent wobble in the earth’s axis explains all of Jesus’ predictions of
world-wide catastrophes immediately prior to His second coming. Consider the
following amazing prophecy of Jesus, all of which would result from the violent wobble
of the earth on its axis prophesied by Isaiah.
Luke 21:11-12, 25-33 NKJV
there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and
and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. …
there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the
earth distress of nations, with perplexity,
the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men’s
hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the
the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of
Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now
when these things begin
, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
29 Then He spoke to them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 When they
are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. 31 So
when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.
32 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take
place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
The observable phenomenon in the heavens will be that the sun, moon, planets, and
stars will no longer follow their prescribed paths across the sky. The earthquakes and
seas roaring will result from the erratic stresses on the earth from the wobble of its axis
