The 70-Year Visitations Patterns of God

A Biblical World View

As I look forward in time, with a prophetic world view, I wonder if my biblical bias obscures God’s reality, history written in advance ?

How reasonable is it that I should firmly consider that God will act on Israel in the 70-Year prophetic window: 2016-2018 ?

This weekend I watched a documentary on WWII.  I wondered.   If I were placed into 1945 with a biblical world view, how would I understand end times prophecy from the historical events of the day ?  I read Bullinger (December 15, 1837-June 6, 1913).  He was a man full of passion for God.  He looked forward expectantly for the day Israel would be gathered into the land as a nation.  Did he see the signs ?

The purpose of this letter is to step back and compare two periods of time with the view to evaluate the reasonableness of my prophetic world view.  I want to look back from 1945 with a view toward the super sign of the times, the formation of national Israel, and evaluate the reasonableness of expecting the birth of that nation.  Then, I want to look forward from 2016 into the future and evaluate the reasonableness of expecting Daniel’s 70th Week in the 70-Year pattern of God’s visitations upon Israel.

Looking Back in Time

If I were in America in 1945 what could I have seen as “signs or seasons” of the biblical times ?  It is tempting for believers in Christ,  the true Church,  to view the future in the context of the “catching out” or rapture event.  This is to be expected since we are assured that this is the “blessed hope.  But we must resist this temptation.  There is very little in the New Testament which speaks to the “time or seasons” of this future rapture event.   We must approach this “blessed hope” by inference, through the back door, if you will,  based on God’s redemptive plans for Israel.   We may infer the season of the rapture by studying Daniel’s 70th week and Old Testament prophecies.

God Begins the Call to National Assembly

When did God begin his “end of days” work on Israel, nationally ?  In 1945, could I look back into Bullinger’s century and see signs ?   Could I declare the signs of the seasons and speculate that soon Israel would become a nation and fulfill biblical prophecies extending back some 2,600 years.  It  was 606 B.C. when Israel had last been a sovereign nation.  What was the likelihood of such a declaration.  What people had ever come back as an autonomous nation after so, so long ?  It had never happened.  Was it a crazy declaration ?  The prophets declared it !

The Three Signs

There were some signs.  In 1878, 1897 and 1917 events transpired which, looking back, all were signs of possibilities that the Diaspora Jews would come into their biblical homeland in the near future.

Petah Tikva

In 1878,  a Jewish settlement was established in Petah Tikva, about 7 miles east of Tel Aviv.  Petah Tikva was the Hebrew word meaning “Opening of Hope”.  This was predominantly an orthodox Jewish  agricultural settlement.   The name, “Opening of Hope” is found in Hosea 2:15:

“And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.”

Zionist Congress

In 1897,  Theodor Herzl founded political Zionism. He published a pamphlet titled, “The Jewish State” in 1896.  On August 29, 1897 he convened the First Zionist Congress in Basel, Switzerland.  This was largely a symbolic Parliament for those who sympathized with the Zionist goals which included: (1) the promotion of the settlement in Eretz-Israel of Jewish farmers, artisans and manufacturers, (2) organizing and uniting all Jews where they lived, (3) strengthening and fostering a Jewish national sentiment and national consciousness; and (4) making preparations for seeking the consents of various world governments in order to reach the goals of Zionism.

The Balfour Declaration

On November 2, 1917, Arthur J. Balfour wrote a letter to Lord Walter Rothschild (1868-1937) which indicated that the British government had decided to endorse the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine.  This letter is known as the Balfour Declaration.

The Times of Jacob’s Troubles: Background

God is a God of patterns.  Shadows of the past are the future’s realities.  Jacob’s Troubles (Jeremiah 30:7) happened twice.  Jacob worked seven years for Laban in exchange for Rachel’s hand in marriage.  Laban tricked him.  He married Leah who was veiled in marriage clothing.  So, he worked for Laban another seven years for Rachel.  These were troubling times for Jacob. Daniel’s 70th week is also known as the time of Jacob’s Trouble.  It is the Tribulation disclosed in the Book of Revelation.  Jeremiah prophesies that Israel will nationally experience a time of great trouble before God saves them.  Jeremiah speaks to the “end of days” when Israel will be saved.

However, we may view another time of Jacob’s troubles immediately preceding their nationhood.

The Holocaust

In the period of 1938-1945 Israel experienced a lesser Time of Jacob’s Trouble akin to the first seven years Jacob served Laban.  The Time of Jacob’s Trouble, as prophesied in Jeremiah 30, will occur during Daniel’s 70th Week, the Tribulation.  This horrific time, which is in Israel’s future, will parallel the story of the Isaiah 53 messianic passion.  It will be Israel’s national time to struggle into Messianic awareness which will be brought on by their future national suffering under the Antichrist.   The Book of Revelation teaches us that the surviving remnant of Israel will keep the commandments of God and have the testimony and faith of Jesus (Yeshua). (Revelation 12:17; 14:12)

Looking Back From 1947-48

In 1945, we would have had four events which could have been reasonably considered prophetic signs suggesting that the “seasons” of Israel’s nationhood were in the near future.  When we consider Petah Tikva, the Zionist Congress and the Balfour Declaration, we can plainly see that the Jews and Great Britain were working toward this goal of a national Jewish homeland in Palestine.

These signs forecasted a national birth of a Jewish nation which had been prophesied by Israel’s prophets, particularly Ezekiel and Isaiah.

The holocaust was the seminal event which birthed the need for a Jewish homeland in Palestine.  The genocide suffered by the Jews would result in the birth of the nation. (Ezekiel 37:7-14) It was a birth which happened in “a day”. (Isaiah 66:8).  The Holocaust, as a type of Jacob’s first trouble, was judgment followed by blessing.

On November 29, 1947, the United Nations voted in favor of the Jewish homeland in Palestine. The British mandate governing Palestine ended in May 1948.  On May 14, 1948, Israel declared nationhood.  It had become a nation in a day fulfilling Isaiah’s 2,600 year old prophecy.

Looking Forward From 2016-2018

Our prophetic world view must be from the perspective of what God is doing in Israel.  The foundation of the view must be seated in Daniel 9:24-27.   Our view and analysis of the signs of the times must be principally based on Daniel’s 70 Weeks prophecy.

Can we know the time that God will declare Daniel’s week is come ?  Can we look back and reasonably know that the Time of Jacob’s Trouble is near ?  I think the answer is affirmative.

The context of the analysis is Daniel 9.   Daniel was studying Jeremiah’s prophecy of the 70-year Babylonian exile.  Jeremiah 29:10 says that God would visit Israel “after 70 years”.  This suggests that 70 years is associated with God’s visitation.

The amount of time which elapsed from 1878 Petah Tivah until 1948 was 70 years.  God visited Israel in the formation of a nation.  The amount of time which elapsed from the 1897 Zionist Congress until 1967, when Israel captured Jerusalem, was 70 years.  God visited Israel reclaiming Jerusalem.

The numeric theme of Daniel 9 is 70 years. The prophecy covered seven (7)  periods of seventy (70) years.  In fact Jesus specifically teaches that God’s forgiveness of Israel is a function of 70 years. He said that a Jew should forgive his brother, not seven times, but seventy (70) times seven (7) times.  (Matthew 18:21-22) Jesus suggests that “divine forgiveness” is a factor of no less than 70 times 7.

We know that God will forgive Israel’s sins at the end of the Time of Jacob’s Troubles. (Jeremiah 31:34)  We know that Daniel’s 70 Weeks prophecy is ultimately about Israel’s forgiveness, albeit after significant suffering producing a saving faith, on God’s terms.

Therefore, it is a reasonable to associate the number 70 with Israel’s forgiveness and Daniel’s 70th Week.    Can we extend this line of reasoning to the 70-year period which is now upon us ?  Will God visit Israel under this pattern of visitation ?

Knowing the Time of Visitation

Jesus declares that Israel should have known the time of their visitation.  Jeremiah confirms this because God visited Israel at the end of the Babylonian 70-year exile.

This begs the question.  Could Israel be in a form of exile these last 70 years ?  I believe Israel is in a spiritual exile these seventy years.  The  Babylonian exile represented a 70-year physical exile and the period following the re-gathering as a nation represents a 70-year spiritual exile.  Paul teaches that the spiritual man follows the physical man. (1 Corinthians 15:46).  God’s pattern is first the physical man (Adam) followed by the spiritual man (Jesus: second Adam) is God’s pattern of redemption.

They are surely exiled from the heart of the Messiah, Jesus.  They deny Jesus is the Christ.  Therefore, they have the spirit of Antichrist. (1 John 2:22; 4:3)  It is this opposing spirit which will not live in the “remnant of true Israel” during the Time of Jacob’s Trouble. (Revelation 12:17; 14:12)

Jesus scolded the Pharisees for not knowing the season of the Messiah. (Matthew 16:3)  The literal teaching is that Israel can and should know the times of their visitations !  (Luke 19:44)

Today, March 29, 2016, we are prophetically situated near the end of the 70-year period: November 29, 1947 and May 14, 1948.  The Year 1947-48 period was in the Jewish year of 5707 based on the September 1947 Jewish new year reckoning.   We approach Jewish the Year 5777, September 1, 2016 (Torah Calendar reckoning)   5777 – 5707 = 70 years.

God’s Visitations have taken the forms of blessing and judgment.   We see the judgments of Babylon and Temple destruction.  We see the blessings of national birth and Jerusalem recovered.  Israel will see the judgment of Daniel’s 70th Week and the blessing of Jeremiah’s promised forgiveness.

The signs are bright and clear.  In fact, they are exceedingly greater that my look back from 1945.  Those four prophetic signs confirm God’s use of 70-Year patterns and Israel’s visitations.

In the context of Daniel, is it reasonable to expect God’s visitation upon Israel ?   I believe that we are living in the most prophetically pregnant period of the last 2,000 years.  God has implied a visitation and forgiveness pattern associated with Israel and 70-year periods.

The national birth of Israel is the most prophetically significant sign since the destruction of Israel’s Temple in 70 A.D. (Daniel 9:26).  Notably, this was another 70-year sign of visitation.

It is my reasoned belief that we will experience the visitation of God….soon.  The true Church must depart prior to God’s declaration of Daniel’s 70th Week.  This mystery of the rapture is the “back door” approach to understanding the season of the rapture.  It precedes Jacob’s Trouble and Daniel’s Week.   Paul describes this time as the “fullness of the Gentiles”. (Romans 11:25)

We will have a personal visitation (rapture), then God will visit Israel. (the two witnesses ?)

Then, after the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, all Israel (the remnant) shall be saved. (Romans 11:27; Jeremiah 31:34)

All of this will be followed by the 1,000 year Sabbath rest.  Our God reigns.  World peace at last.

Come quickly Lord Jesus !
